CAVILL RELOADS

- Mark Daniell

Ladies and gentlemen, Henry Cavill wants to welcome you to the gun show.

In one of Mission: Impossible — Fallout’s most talked-about scenes, Cavill, as CIA agent Walker, gets into a bruising bathroom brawl alongside Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt.

As their adversary starts to get the better of the two of them, Cavill “reloads” his arm weapons.

It’s a moment that’s already become famous in the trailers, but it’s one that writer-director Christopher McQuarrie didn’t anticipate being so popular — especially since it came together so spontaneously.

“That was an improv by Henry Cavill on the day,” McQuarrie says. “It was a moment you didn’t think about in terms of all the other things you had to get through. I don’t even think I was aware of it until we were editing the scene.”

But Mission fans certainly noticed, and Cavill has been happily giving arm gun reloading lessons on the red carpet.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever watched those reaction videos of people watching trailers, but go watch some reaction videos of people watching the Fallout trailer. You’ve got Tom flying helicopters and falling off of mountains and smashing through walls and crashing motorcycles and the single biggest reaction is Henry Cavill reloading his arms,” McQuarrie says with a laugh. “It’s funny because you’re thinking, ‘Tom’s actually flying a helicopter... what do I have to do?’”
