Could Carter return?
Marvel fans might miss Agent Peggy Carter, but Hayley Atwell was quite fine to bid the character adieu when ABC cancelled her eponymous show in 2016.
“As an actor, you give what you can, you do your job and some roles are going to have more impact than others,” she said during a recent media day for Disney’s Christopher Robin. “Within the Marvel world, this has had lasting impact because of the nature of the franchise being an expansive, ongoing thing.”
The 36-year-old British-American actress landed the plum role of Carter in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, and proved to be a fan favourite. She then reprised Peggy Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and a Marvel short video.
Agent Carter lasted two season son TV and thecharacterd ied in the movies with Captain America: Civil War, but fans still wonder whether we’ve seen the last of her.
Atwell is unsure. She’s already looking ahead to new and different things. In addition to her supporting role in Christopher Robin that sees her playing the wife of Ewan McGregor’s titular character, she’s just wrapped the period drama The Long Song.
But she did reveal under what condition she’d be willing to return to the Marvel fold as Peggy Carter.
“If I had the opportunity again to play her, I would have to feel that there was an appropriate development and something more than I’ve already done,” she told reporters.
