McGregor still game to play Obi-Wan

-

The Force is still strong with Ewan McGregor.

After a lot of speculation that Lucasfilm was set to give his iconic Obi-Wan Kenobi character a starring role in his own stand-alone flick, chatter dried up after the lacklustre performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

But the actor, who earlier this year won a Golden Globe for his role in Fargo and is about to star as Danny Torrance in the sequel to Stephen King ’s The Shining, is still ready to play the Jedi master — should the phone call come.

“I don’t know anything more about it than you do, I’m afraid,” the 47-year-old said at a recent media day for Christopher Robin, in which he plays the titular character opposite an animated Winnie the Pooh.

“I really don’t. But I’d be up for it. You know that.”

McGregor appeared as Obi-Wan in George Lucas’s prequel trilogy, taking over a role made famous by Alec Guinness.

He hasn’t appeared onscreen in any of the newer episodes — The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi — but he still relishes the opportunity to interact with Star Wars fans.

“Not long ago they did a Star Wars marathon. I’ve never done anything like this, but I was asked to come and I said I’d do it.

“I wanted to introduce the last one (Revenge of the Sith) and I went down there at 2:30 in the morning and there were people there who’d been watching movies all day. Those are the real Star Wars fans. They were really in their element.”
