10 THINGS TO DO

Cariwest fest among the highlights

- NAZARETH DOG DAZE

PLACE

Buffalo jumps! Dinosaur bones! What southern Alberta kid doesn’t enjoy the thought of playing among the detritus of the Badlands in Drumheller? Choreographer and dancer Brian Webb, filmmaker Kyle Armstrong, and composer Mark Templeton have banded together to create Place, a reverie on just such matters. This Brian Webb Dance Company show steps outside its usual home at the Timms Centre for two nights at MacEwan University.

When: Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m.

Where: Theatre Lab, Allard Hall, MacEwan University, 11110 104 Ave.

Admission: $35, regular; $25, students and seniors, available at the door.

BLIMP ROCK

They’ve tussled with Toronto Blue Jays fans, started a campaign to play in a blimp over Lake Ontario, and bought Phil Elverum’s (of Mount Eerie) band naming service for $200, and now Toronto’s Blimp Rock are coming to presumably wreak some form of havoc in Edmonton. The indierock four-piece is also known to bring out a PowerPoint presentation during shows, as well as selling outdated office equipment, though presumably the tour van will not have enough space for the latter. Opening are Robert Joseph and L.N. Baba.

When: Thursday at 8 p.m.

Where: Sewing Machine Factory, 9562 Whyte Ave.

Admission: $10 at the door

The pride of Dumferline, Scotland, Nazareth may be a long ways away from their commercial heyday, but the hard rocking four-piece continue on, with only bassist Pete Agnew as the sole surviving original member. Best known in these parts for such hits as Love Hurts and This Flight Tonight, the band still makes a dent worldwide, with their 2014 album Rock ’n’ Roll Telephone jumping up the charts in Northern Europe. Their latest album, Tattooed on my Brain, came out in 2018.

When: Friday at 9 p.m.

Where: River Cree Resort & Casino, 300 East Lapotac Blvd., Enoch

Admission: $39.99 and up, available from Ticketmaster
