The luxe life: West Block condos in Glenora offer private haven

Your own private haven situated in a luxurious penthouse suite, located high above the city skyline and overlooking the neighbouring tree canopy — this is the good life at West Block in Glenora. While high-rise living has long been associated with luxury and stature, the Columbus penthouse suite at West Block is unlike any other new highrise development in the Edmonton area, says Sarah Koeckhoven, associate at West Block on 142 Street and Stony Plain Road. “The layout of the Columbus residence is one of the more unique plans here at West Block, providing enough entertaining, living, and personal space while combining features that we find clients want,” she says of the layout that boasts nearly 2500 squarefeet of interior space plus two terraces that add over 500 square-feet of outdoor space. “The master bedroom with private terrace, walkin closet, and ensuite is tucked away from the living and entertaining areas of the suite,” describes Koeckhoven. A grand foyer that showcases a wine cellar, chef ’s kitchen, living room, solarium and second terrace with fire table for entertaining are in addition to the three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and laundry space that make up the Columbus. “Every detail of this unit is thought out magnificently; the wine cellar feature as you walk into the foyer is beautiful, and it’s a huge hit in this residence, as is the private terrace and the wall space that was created and meant for fine art,” she says. “And all suites in West Block come with luxury as a standard — with engineered hardwood flooring, Bosch appliances, Kohler fixtures and in-floor heating in the master ensuite being standard features that everyone can expect at West Block.”

The Columbus is also made up of floor-toceiling windows throughout the suite, which are in addition to the two outdoor terraces that allow for west, north, & east exposure.

The Columbus is also made up of floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the suite, which are in addition to the two outdoor terraces that allow for west, north, and east exposure. “Each balcony is designed with useable space in mind, and the shape allows for comfortable furniture, a place for your coffee or glass of wine, and some plants to make it feel cozy,” describes Koeckhoven. “The east balcony is meant for private use by the mastersuite owners, while the west terrace — which is connected to the solarium — is for evening entertaining or an evening spent watching the sun set.” “The views of Glenora and the mature trees are spectacular and, because of the way the building is shaped, you still get a glimpse of the south exposure as well.” And while the Columbus penthouse suite allows for three bedrooms, Koeckhoven stresses the versatility of the home. “This is a unique residence as it has room for the professional couple and their hobbies — maybe using the additional rooms for crafting, painting, and music — or the downsizing grandparents looking to have extra rooms for their grandchildren when they come to visit. It’s very adaptable.”

DEVELOPMENT AND AMENITIES

The entire West Block development, which is comprised of three residential high-rise condominium towers, as well as stacked townhomes, and a threestorey commercial building that will provide additional retail and office space directly on-site, will reinforce the feel of exclusive living in Glenora. The amenities within the on-site urban square alone will provide residents and visitors with all the perks of living in a vibrant, pulsating neighbourhood by offering trendy new restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques virtually at their doorstep. And, at each of the three mixed-use highrise towers, the first two floors will be a combination of retail, restaurants, and professional offices, while the residential tower portion offers unobstructed views of the Glenora tree canopy and the river valley. Amenities for residents within the high-rise towers include an indoor lounge and game area with a television and fireplace, plus an outdoor rooftop lounge with cabana beds. On the edge of this outdoor area is the gated, outdoor dog run, a unique feature allowing residents to remain on the premises in a secured area at night when walking their dogs. A nearby fitness room and flex room is also available with an adjacent catering kitchen, which allows residents to book out the facility and host a larger party – all while catering staff prepare and serve meals directly in the full kitchen. And for friends of residents who are looking to spend the night at West Block, a hotel suite (with washroom and kitchenette) can be reserved on the on third floor, accommodating up to four guests at a time. 80 per cent of West Block’s residential units have already been sold, with the Columbus penthouse suite ranging in price from $1.8-$1.93 million. West Block’s first residents will move in during late spring and early summer 2019, with commercial tenants opening for business around the same time. To get a real appreciation of the West Block master plan, it’s best to visit the presentation centre on 143 Street and Stony Plain Road, where a scale model of the full development is available for viewing, including a fully built 1648-square-foot condo unit for visitors to walk through. Additional information can also be obtained by visiting the Beaverbrook Store at City Centre West, where visitors can view products and discuss the communities, designs, features, and finishes with Beaverbrook staff.
