Man sought for trying to run down Mountie

- NICOLE BERGOT

A man who tried to run down an RCMP officer during a northern Alberta chop-shop bust is being sought by police.

Two firearms and two trucks stolen from Bonnyville, a truck and motorcycle stolen from Lac La Biche, and a motorcycle stolen from Fort Saskatchewan were recovered by RCMP after officers executed a search warrant Oct. 16 on a Beaver Lake property, said police in a Thursday release. Beaver Lake is about 170 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.

A 60-year-old Beaver Lake man was arrested.

Another man wanted on outstanding warrants was found at a nearby property, but when police tried to arrest him he drove the white Escalade he was in toward an RCMP officer, who escaped injury. A brief police pursuit ensued but was called off in the interest of public safety.

Derek Gladue, 25, of Beaver Lake is being sought for multiple offences, including assault on a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, altering/destroying/removing a vehicle identification number, and fraudulent concealment. His previous outstanding warrants include break and enter, as well as other property crimes.

Officers did, however, arrest another man in the area — a 29-year-old from Beaver Lake — wanted on outstanding warrants.

The operation included members of the Lac La Biche RCMP, the Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit, Cold Lake Police Dog Services, RCMP Air Services and the auto theft section.

George Gladue is charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, altering/destroying/removing a vehicle identification number and fraudulent concealment. He was released with court conditions and is to appear in Lac La Biche provincial court on Dec. 3.

Hank Gladue is charged with break and enter, possession of break-in tools, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief over $5,000 and being disguised with intent to commit an offence. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and released after a judicial hearing, and is to appear in Lac La Biche provincial court on Oct. 29.

Anyone with information that may lead to the capture of Derek Gladue is asked to call police. Anonymous tips can go to CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com.
