Called up from the Senators’ AHL affiliate in Belleville on Monday, Ottawa rookie winger Drake Batherson will make his NHL debut against the Detroit Red Wings.
1 Sticking with Andy Craig
Anderson has already been declared the starter for this one. This will be his 17th appearance of the season after getting Sunday off in Florida. Anderson has given this team a chance to win every time he steps into the net.
2 Strong Numbers Matt
Duchene has been solid offensively for the Senators this season and it would be helpful if he continued to have success vs. Detroit. In 25 career games against the Wings, Duchene has 9-9-18 scoring totals.
3 Clean Up Your Act
The Senators have to stay out of the box by being disciplined. The club is ranked No. 31 overall in the league in penalty killing and already give up a lot of scoring chances 5-on-5. Can’t afford to give the opposition extra opportunities.
4 Success at Home
The Senators open a three-game homestand that continues Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The club has a 5-3-2 record at Canadian Tire Centre this season and, for the most part, has played well on home ice.
5 Score First
This is an area the Senators have struggled with for a long time. The club is 4-3-2 when opening the scoring this season and 3-5-1 when the Senators allow the opponent on the board first. Getting on the board early is good for confidence.
