Candas Jane Dorsey ICE book launch: A recent inductee into the Canadian Science Fiction Hall of Fame and one of our local bright stars, Candas Jane Dorsey was recently asked by Neil Gaiman himself if she’d sign her book for him backstage after his appearance in town. That book was ICE & Other Stories, which Dorsey is launching — on her birthday, no less — at Audreys Books tonight. Beginning with the iconic 1988 story (Learning About) Machine Sex and ending with a new tale written specially for this volume, this marvellous collection spans over 30 years of making an impact on Canadian literary, queer and feminist speculative fiction since her debut story was published in 1977. Details: 7 p.m. at Audreys Books (10702 Jasper Ave.), free admission

Henry Sir Comedy: Mr. Sir has toured widely, appearing at independent venues, festivals, and some of America’s top comedy clubs, including Denver Comedy Works, Rick Bronson’s Comic Strip and House of Comedy, the Laugh Factory and the New York Comedy Club. Friday night, however, he’s bringing it home by recording his first comedy album at the totally awesome Grindstone Theatre. “I’ve been lucky enough to be doing comedy all over North America but really wanted my first album to be recorded here in Edmonton,” says Sir. “There aren’t many comedy albums that are recorded in the city and Edmonton, in general, is a bit overlooked comedy-wise.”

Details: 9 p.m. at Grindstone Theatre (10019 81 Ave.), $15 at the door

Roger Hodgson: Former co-frontman of Supertramp, you probably know Hodgson’s hits Dreamer, Give a Little Bit, Breakfast in America, Take the Long Way Home, The Logical Song and — whoa-oh-oh — It’s Raining Again. Definitely on the more spiritual and philosophical end of rock ’n’ roll, Hodgson’s great works post-Supertramp include 1984’s In the Eye of the Storm, a terrific blend of prog and straightforward rock, and 2000’s Open the Door, which has a bit of French vibe going for it, having soaked in the French countryside. Should be a good show, may his piano be well tuned.

Details: 9 p.m. at River Cree Casino (300 E Lapotac Blvd.), $80-$91 through Ticketmaster
