Edmonton Public Library makes top workplaces list

-

Edmonton Public Library (EPL) is its own bestseller.

EPL is the first public library to be named by Waterstone Human Capital one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures, one of 40 organizations across the country to make the list.

Submissions were scored in six areas: vision and leadership; recruitment and hiring for fit; cultural alignment and measurement; retention; rewards and recognition; organizational performance; and corporate social responsibility.

“EPL’s success is due to our stellar team of over 700 passionate and creative staff, who work together across 21 branches,” Pilar Martinez, EPL’s chief executive, said in a Thursday statement.

“Our employees are encouraged to share their ideas, take initiative and lead from whatever position they hold; the results are a sense of pride in working for EPL, great advocates for the library, and a team spirit that’s second to none.”

The national program annually recognizes best-in-class Canadian organizations.

Corporate culture drives performance and that is an organization’s greatest asset, said Marty Parker, president and chief executive of Waterstone Human Capital.

EPL will officially receive the award at a gala in February 2019.

Every year, EPL hosts more than 15.4 million in-branch and online visits across 21 branches and its website.
