Hardy Ram targets northern U.S. drivers ALEX REID
While North Edition is perfect for Canada, it will only be sold south of the border
Ram has taken its full-sized 1500 pickup and given it the Ice Age treatment, adding a whole host of upgrades that make it more capable and comfortable for driving in winter. But it is available in the United States only.
It’s called the North Edition, and it’s specifically aimed at customers in the northeastern U.S.
Want a rundown of some of the features that make this truck so great? The interior of the North Edition is designed to keep you warm, so right off the bat we’ve got heated seats and a heated steering wheel, and a remote car starter to warm everything up before you even get inside.
A block heater is included to keep the engine warm overnight to ease starting.
The mirrors are also heated to ease snow and ice removal.
Four-wheel drive is included, as well as an electric rear differential lock. The truck has been lifted one inch and now rides on threepeak mountain snowflake-rated Falken LT off-road tires.
Just in case all of that doesn’t keep you out of the drifts, there are also tow hooks.
A lot of the jewelry has also been replaced, in favour of bodycoloured pieces.
The 1500 comes in either short- or long-bed models, with two engine options: the 3.6-litre V6 hybrid or the 5.7-L V8. It will cost US$47,585, which is a pretty hefty snowball to throw, but if you live in a climate where it’s winter more often than not, the North Edition will make your commute a lot easier.
