Simply Paint: One of the best shows going on in town right now, and with the simplest of themes: Simply Paint, running through Jan. 19. Come see the captivating colour work of RBC Canadian Painting Competition runner-up Emmanuel Osahor, and have a look at Dana Holst’s portrait of an abandoned dog who lived feral in Fort McMurray for a year before being captured. The show also includes work by Paul Bernhardt, David Cantine, Jacob Dutton, Wei Li, Ally McIntyre, Travis McEwen, Tammy Salzl, Marigold Santos, Jesse Thomas and Daniel Toumine, and the attached show by Spanish painter Joseba Eskubi is a wonder to behold, utter confidence in his chunky brush strokes which summon the freest of Goya’s work.

the smalls Garage Sale: Edmonton loves a good merch-ing order, and if ever a band was able at selling its T-shirts, it was the smalls: the most thoughtful kinda-punk, kinda-metal band in Canada. There’ll be shirts, CDs, vinyl, posters — every dear little angle at “The Last Merchandise Stand.” As the band notes, “This will be your last chance to get any more smalls merch. We’re selling it all, and if you want some? Come on down or find someone who can. It’s cash only, too, please. The event is family friendly but they will be serving, too. It’s a small room so we will only be able to have so many people inside at one time. So dress warm, ’cause there might be a lineup.”

Details: 12 p.m.-4 p.m. at 9910 (9910B 109 St.), no charge

CAM Winter Concert 2018: Around five dozen Centre for Arts & Music (CAM) students are putting on a rock concert Saturday afternoon, young talent keeping the metaphorical lighter-flame held high, with an assist by the Rock and Roll Music Society. If you can make this, please do.

Details: 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at St. Cecilia Junior High School (8830 132 Ave.), no charge.
