Greenhouse firm specializes in unusual vegetables
Mountain of Storms: Before they were magnates of the outdoors, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and The North Face’s co-founder Doug Tompkins were true dirtbags. In 1968, Chouinard, Tompkins and a group of three friends set off in an old van to a then-obscure destination: the eponymous Patagonia region. Along the way, these five friends stopped only to eat, sleep, ski, climb and surf. Amazingly, they chronicled the entire adventure on a 16-mm Bolex camera. Mountain of Storms has inspired and maintained a faithful fan base in the decades since, and all profits go to Hope Mission: No Child Hungry program, and there’ll also be some sweet action-oriented door prizes. Ed the Sock: Coming to town on his War on Stupid Tour, former MuchMusic mainstay Ed the Sock has changed his political stripes over the years from being a Reagan Thatcher supporter, presumably because it was offensive and that’s how the ’90s worked, to more recently championing causes like gay rights and defending the homeless. The Sock himself will be on stage at 9:10 p.m., and it will be interesting to see how that works. Someone actually tried to tell me Ed was a puppet the other day — pff, can you believe that? As if!
