City police search for suspect SUV used in January homicide

-

Homicide investigators are asking for the public’s help in tracking down an SUV connected to a January murder in northeast Edmonton.

Barbara Nelson, 59, died Jan. 18 from blunt-force trauma after a home invasion near 120 Avenue and 61 Street.

Edmonton police believe the suspects responsible fled the scene in a white Jeep Compass of unknown year, spokesman Scott Pattison said in a Monday evening news release.

The vehicle is detailed with black roof rails, side mirrors and frontdoor handles and was last seen fleeing the Montrose neighbourhood around 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 18, travelling westbound on 120 Avenue.

Police responded to the home around 8:50 p.m., following reports of shots fired. A 56-year-old man found in the residence was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Homicide investigators previously said they believed the home invasion was targeted, but no suspects have been identified.

The release of the surveillance images comes after a call-out to the public on Jan. 22 for any residential surveillance or vehicle dashcam footage that could contain images of potential suspects.

Police recently released suspect-vehicle footage from the latest homicide in the city’s southeast.

Manvir Singh Sidhu, 23, died of a gunshot wound after he was found lying on the ground outside a residence on Crabapple Crescent on Jan. 21.

Edmonton has had six homicides in 2019, and four of them remain unsolved.

Police are asking anyone with information on the location of the suspect vehicle or the suspects involved to call 780-423-4567.
