Here’s what’s happening for end of June and July
FREE COMPUTER SESSIONS
This is a perfect way for seniors who want to learn the ins and outs of modern technology. University of Alberta students head up this class, and will take you through some basic tips and tricks for laptops, cellular telephones and tablet computers — all on a one-onone basis.
When: Sundays, 1 – 4 p.m. (ongoing except the Sundays that fall in long weekends)

PRESSED FLOWERS 101
Check out this session to learn how to make beautiful pressed flowers from instructor Melanie Hsia, who received a certificate in the art form. Throughout the course, you will make two pressed-flower key chains to keep as souvenirs.
When: June 26, 1 – 4 p.m.

DAY TRIP: PRAIRIE GARDENS
Come enjoy the sights, sounds and scents of the Prairie Gardens in Bon Accord, Alta, in this day trip planned by the North Edmonton Seniors Association. Great for gardening enthusiasts, the trip through the gorgeous and green area includes a train tour, petting zoo, shopping area and some table-top gardening activities.
When: Thursday, July 4. Bus leaves at 10:15 a.m. and returns 3:30 p.m.
Where: Bus departs from the North Edmonton Seniors Association, 7524 139 Ave.

SENIORS POP-UP RESOURCE CARAVAN: FIT FOR ALL WITH WENDY KINSMAN
The importance of staying in shape and leading a healthy lifestyle doesn’t end at 55. Come check out this session — supported by the New Horizons for Seniors Program and Comfort Keepers — on how to be active using both standing exercises and sitting ones you can do at home. Lunch will be provided and there is a 50/50 draw that will take place at the event.
When: Friday, July 12, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

5TH ANNUAL NACHO FRIDAY
Almost nothing is better than a pile of fried tortillas smothered in cheese, meat and vegetables. This popular yearly event, hosted by the SouthWest Edmonton Seniors Association, will bring seniors together for an afternoon of camaraderie and, of course, nachos. There are three different styles available: classic, mango chipotle chicken breast and pulled pork. All of them come with guacamole, salsa and sour cream.
When: July 12, 1 – 2:30 p.m.

EDMONTON PROSPECTS BASEBALL GAME
Baseball may be America’s favourite pastime, but Edmonton is no slouch in the sport, and the Prospects are back again this year, ready to take on the rest of the Western Major Baseball League. For the first time, the Westend Seniors Activity Centre (WSAC) is hosting an outing to the game and is hoping to fill a bus with seniors who love a good ballgame.
When: July 12. The bus leaves at 6 p.m., and the game runs from 7 – 10 p.m. at which time the bus will return everyone to WSAC
