Teunissen holds on to lead at Tour de France

-

Dutch rider Mike Teunissen of Team Jumbo-Visma retained the yellow jersey on Sunday as his team won the Stage 2 time trial at the Tour de France.

Teunissen’s team finished an undulating 27.6-kilometre team time trial through Brussels in 28:58, 20 seconds better than the Ineos team led by defending champion Geraint Thomas. The Quick Step team finished one second back of Ineos.

Teunissen, 26, one day earlier became the first rider from the Netherlands to wear the yellow jersey in 30 years, since Erik Breukink in 1989. Teunissen rode the 194.5-km opening stage in four hours, 22 minutes and 47 seconds.

The Milwaukee Bucks signed NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo’s older brother, Thanasis, to a two-year contract, The Athletic reported Sunday.

The 26-year-old forward was a second-round pick by New York in 2014 and appeared in two games with the Knicks in January 2016.

The Athens native won his second straight Greek League championship this season with Panathinaikos. The Bucks’ 2019-20 roster now features two sets of siblings, with the Antetokounmpo brothers and twins Robin and Brook Lopez.

Golden State Warriors majority owner Joe Lacob said the franchise will retire Andre Iguodala’s No. 9 jersey.

“We thank Andre for all of his contributions and look forward to seeing his number in the rafters at Chase Center,” Lacob said.

In six seasons with the Warriors, the 35-year-old sixth man won three NBA championships and was named the 2015 NBA Finals MVP.

Golden State agreed to trade Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzlies on June 30.

Lacob made his statement as the trade was formally completed and announced on Sunday.

The 15-year NBA veteran averaged 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 68 games (13 starts) for the Warriors last season.

Earlier this month, Lacob announced the team would also retire all-star forward Kevin Durant’s No. 35. A two-time Finals MVP with the Warriors, Durant recently signed with Brooklyn.

Cleveland confirmed Sunday that right-hander Carlos Carrasco has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia and is receiving treatment.

Carrasco, who last pitched on May 30, revealed the news Friday during an excerpt of an interview that aired in the Dominican Republic.

The Indians placed him on the 10-day injured list in early June, citing a blood condition.

The team said then that future details “will be conveyed at Carlos and his family’s discretion.”

The team said Carrasco, 32, has been cleared for strength and conditioning workouts and some throwing activity.

He’ll be evaluated regularly throughout his recovery.

Carrasco is 4-6 with a 4.98 ERA in 12 starts this season. He has spent his entire 10-year career with Cleveland.
