3 arrested after raid turns up drugs, guns, hand grenades
Three people are facing a combined 35 charges after RCMP busted a drug trafficking operation where drugs, cash and weapons including three hand grenades were seized.
A joint investigation was conducted by Red Deer and Sylvan Lake RCMP between June 18 and June 26, police said in a news release Friday.
On June 27, a search warrant was used at a Sylvan Lake home and as a result, police seized 416 grams of meth, 17 grams of fentanyl, 1.5 grams of cocaine, the hand grenades, body armour, seven guns, ammunition and more than $25,500 in cash.
Police said members of the Canadian Armed Forces from Wainwright have taken the hand grenades for safety purposes and to confirm their authenticity.
“Not only did we disrupt the flow of drugs between two communities, we also uncovered and removed potentially dangerous weapons from the community,” said Staff Sgt. Jay Peden, acting operations support officer for Red Deer RCMP.
Emily Jean Herman, 20, of Sylvan Lake, has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, six counts of careless use of a firearm, six counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
