- Dylan Short

Edmonton police have charged a man after a number of ATMS were stolen from businesses in the city.

Between June 13 and July 11, police said, there were reports of 10 break-ins, some successful and some not, in and around Edmonton where a suspect was targeting ATM machines, a news release said Tuesday.

In the early morning of July 9, northwest division officers responded to a break-in in the area of Castle Downs Road and 152 Avenue, where a person made off with an ATM machine, a cordless debit machine and several bottles of alcohol. Twenty minutes later, west division officers responded to a break-in at a commercial complex that sustained “extensive damage” near 216 Avenue and Stony Plain Road. A suspect took off with an ATM cash box.

Then on July 11, two days later, southeast patrol members responded to a break-in near 11 Avenue and Knottwood Road where a suspect failed to make off with anything of value after damaging the building.

Police have arrested and charged one man in connection to the thefts. On Tuesday, police distributed a surveillance image of two men as they attempt to identify more suspects involved in the remaining seven ATM incidents.

Richard Fabbi, 36, has been charged with seven counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, six counts of suspended driving, two counts of mischief, three counts of breaking and entering, three counts of breach of recognizance, two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm, and one count each of possession of a firearm knowing it was unauthorized and careless storage of a firearm.
