Road closures, lane restrictions to create some headaches

- DUSTIN COOK

River Valley Road drivers heading for the south side or hoping to zip downtown will be out of luck for the next week to allow for construction work on the Groat Road Bridge.

The full closure under Groat Road starting Saturday at 6 a.m. is one of several summer road shutdowns to bear down on commuters over the next week, outlined by the city in a news release Friday morning.

The closure, expected to end Aug. 2 at 10 p.m., is to accommodate its three-year rehabilitation overhaul. The pedestrian and cycling path under the bridge will remain open.

Groat Road will also continue to face intermittent overnight closures as road work continues between 107 Avenue and Emily Murphy Park Road. This stretch will be closed Sunday from 11:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Tuesday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. During these closures, the westbound lane of Victoria Park Road will be closed at 116 Street, but local access to 100 Avenue will be maintained.

YELLOWHEAD TRAIL FLOODING FIXES

Westbound traffic on the Yellowhead Trail will be reduced to one lane this weekend between 127 Street and St. Albert Trail as road repairs continue following the underpass flooding last Wednesday. The exit ramp to St. Albert Trail will remain open for the closure scheduled from Saturday at 8 a.m. until 6 a.m. Monday.

MILL WOODS LANE CLOSURE

Both directions of 66 Street will be reduced to one lane between 28 Avenue and 31 Avenue to accommodate installation of new fire hydrants.

Weeklong work is scheduled to start Monday at 9 a.m. and wrap up Aug. 4.

HERMITAGE ROAD PAVING

Road paving will force weekday lane reductions in both directions through August on Hermitage Road from 50 Street to Victoria Trail.

Lanes will be reduced from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Monday, expected to end Aug. 31.

?? DAVID BLOOM ?? Starting at 6 a.m. Saturday, River Valley Road will be closed under Groat Road for bridge rehabilitation work.
