COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE

One person’s trash is another person’s treasure, as they say. This community garage sale, presented by North West Edmonton Seniors Society, has countless treasures to offer in a fun and friendly environmen­t — both indoors and out. The event also features a concession stand for when you’re done shopping and looking to relax. When: Saturday, July 27, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

THE SENIOR ACTOR WORKSHOP

Hosted by the Geriactors and Sage, these regular sessions are great for both establishe­d thespians and newcomers to the craft. Geriactors staff will teach attendees the finer points of theatre through storytelli­ng, games and improv. The workshops promise a low-stress and friendly environmen­t.

When: Fridays until Aug. 5,

3 – 5 p.m.

ELECTRIC BIKE ‘TRY IT DAY’

Cycling through Edmonton’s streets or scenic River Valley is one of the best parts of the city, and the advent of electronic­ally assisted cycling has made the pastime easier than ever. The Westend Seniors Activity Centre presents an opportunit­y to try electronic bikes, which can assist people cycle for longer and up hills that would otherwise be challengin­g. The event also features staff from Revolution Cycle to answer questions.

When: Monday, Aug. 12, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

CHRONIC PAIN AND HEADACHES PRESENTATI­ON

Too many seniors suffer from chronic pain and headaches. Come to this useful and informativ­e session, presented by Dr. Karn Kang of Providence Chiropract­ic, to learn how to deal with these issues in yourself or in a loved one. Light snacks will be provided.

When: Thursday, Aug. 15, 12 p.m.

SUMMER DRAG SHOW AND DINNER

Come and enjoy all the glitz, glamour and gratuitous makeup of a drag show at the Mill Woods Seniors Associatio­n. The event features a delicious dinner and live entertainm­ent from some of the most popular and flamboyant drag queens Edmonton has to offer like Gigi, Nova Gyna and Lady Tenderflak­e.

When: Thursday, Aug. 15. Doors are at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

TENTH ANNUAL BADMINTON FUN DAY INVITATION­AL

Get your rackets ready and do your stretches. The South East Edmonton Seniors Associatio­n’s (SEESA) badminton club is hosting a morning of low-impact but vigorous sport. Come play with new and old friends at this event geared towards promoting activity in seniors. Lunch is available at SEESA’S cafeteria.
