The family of an Edmonton man slain outside a 118 Avenue convenience store continues to look for answers months after his death.

Catlin Helle, 26, died in hospital on May 20 after violence broke out near 101 Street and 118 Avenue. Police said an autopsy confirmed he died from stab wounds. His sister, Diamond Helle, said since then police haven’t been forthcoming with information on his case.

ones that have to call and when we do call it seems like we get a little bit of an attitude,” she said.

Diamond Helle said her family found a hat and shoe at the scene of Catlin’s stabbing the first time they visited and submitted the items to police as evidence.

Edmonton police confirmed they are waiting for forensic tests to be returned. EPS spokeswoman Carolin Maran said homicides vary on a case-by-case basis.

“What they try to say is this type of thing could take years, sometimes the murderer doesn’t get captured for years,” said Diamond Helle. “But they say that’s not going to be this case. Is that supposed to make me feel better? This is only going to take months, she says.”

Now Diamond Helle is pleading for the public’s help.

“I know getting someone put in jail isn’t gonna bring my brother back and I’m aware of that. But, it might bring a little bit of peace to my mom, it might make us feel better knowing this person isn’t out doing it to other people,” she said.

“If anybody knows the person who is responsible, please tell the police, message me, do it anonymously, you don’t have to put your name out there.”
