KNOLL, Thelma Fay

-

September 10, 1931 - April 26, 2020 Thelma Fay Knoll (Gudmundson) passed away peacefully on April 26. In her 88 years, she flew medivac missions to the far north as a stewardess, served proudly as Registered Nurse, raised four loving children, and enjoyed friends, family and many hobbies. Fay was predeceased by her first husband Doug Lawton and second husband Gerald Knoll. She was the daughter of Leo and Helen Gudmundson and sister to Lorne, Verna Fullerton and Clive. She is survived by sons, Mark and Calvin Lawton, and daughters, Carolyn Yenor and Lise Fox. Fay was born in Onaway, Alberta on September 10, 1931 and her family lived in various towns and farms near Edmonton. After completing high school, Fay attended Camrose College and finished the nursing program in 1953. Her nursing training qualified her to become a stewardess with Canadian Pacific Airlines. Fay flew to all destinations but was proudest of her numerous medivac flights. Fay was a fun loving gal who enjoyed all sports, especially when she had three siblings to compete against. She had a great love of all animals from her life on the farm but had a special affection for her many horses and cats. She and Doug Lawton were married in 1954. They had two sons, Mark and Calvin. Doug passed suddenly in early 1963, leaving Fay to raise the boys. To support her family, she completed her Registered Nursing degree in 1965. Later that year she married Gerald Knoll and had two daughters, Carolyn and Lise. Fay enjoyed her family and neighbours immensely. She was an avid golfer and a huge Edmonton Oiler fan, attending most games. There was never a moment in our lives when we did not feel our mother’s love. Fay had many friends that she met and kept in touch with, she will be dearly missed by all, especially her family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Edmonton Humane Society would be greatly appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held in early September. Expressions of sympathy can be forwarded to the family via the website, www.hainstockedmonton.com
