KUEHNE, Reinhold

On May 11, 2020, Reinhold Kuehne passed away quietly in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 88.

Reinhold was born Gerhard Walter Anton Reinhold Kuehne on July 27, 1931 in Alfeld, Germany. His parents were Wilhelm, a salt miner, and Franziska, who he lost to tuberculos­is at the age of 7. Reinhold grew up attending Catholic Church at St. Maria Himmelfahr­t in Grafelde. After the war, Reinhold trained as a blacksmith and moved to Canada, first living in Labrador and Ontario. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta where he met his wife Brigitte (nee Hahn). Reinhold trained in Alberta as a welder and worked in the energy industry for 40 years in that capacity. He was a founding shareholde­r in Presson Manufactur­ing Ltd, later purchased by Enerflex Ltd, where he worked until his retirement. Reinhold converted into the Mennonite Church, where he and Brigitte were later married on June 6, 1953. Reinhold enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and golf. He was an active member of First Mennonite Church, which he helped build, and played an integral role in the introducti­on of child dedication­s within the Canadian Mennonite community. He is proceeded by his parents and ten siblings. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Brigitte; his four children Herb (Elaine), John (Valerie), Catherine, and Tony (Erin); his six grandchild­ren, Matthew (Angila), Maegan (Paul), Jessica, Brenna, Nathan and Liam; and his two great-grandchild­ren Madalyn and Quinn. He additional­ly leaves behind beloved family in the United States and Germany, as well as many friends. The memorial service will take place virtually, with details to follow.
