Cineplex plans to reopen six locations in Alberta
Cineplex announced Monday that six locations in Alberta will reopen on June 26 with more expected to follow suit in July.
The Canadian entertainment company was forced to close theatres three months ago because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week Premier Jason Kenney announced Stage 2 of Alberta’s relaunch strategy would begin on Friday, which allowed movie theatres to reopen as long as they follow provincial guidelines such as keeping capacity at 100 people per theatre room, maintaining physical distancing and staggering movie start and end times.
Cineplex also announced the Rec Room will be reopening this week in Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg.
Sarah Van Lange, executive director of communications for Cineplex, said more details on which theatres will be reopening will be announced closer to June 26.
“Throughout the planning process, our top priority has always been the health and safety of our employees and guests and ensuring that your time with us is safe, comfortable and welcoming,” she said in an email. “We have used the last three months to re-examine all of our buildings and processes so that when our theatres and entertainment venues reopen, we will have implemented an industry-leading program with end-toend health and safety protocols.”
She said she looks forward to seeing more theatres reopen across the country on July 3.
To ensure the company is following provincial guidelines such as physical distancing, Cineplex will be offering reserved seating and staff will be required to wear personal protective equipment.
Edmonton has six Cineplex locations
and two Rec Room locations.
