Stars of The Dukes of Hazzard are speaking out about the controversy surrounding the show and its use of Confederate imagery. The series, which aired on CBS from 1979 to 1985, features the Confederate flag painted on the roof of the General Lee, a ’69 Dodge Charger. “The situation in the country has obviously changed in the last 40 years. I feel fortunate to be living in a time when we can address some of the injustices of the past,” star Tom Wopat told The Hollywood Reporter. “But the car is innocent.” John Schneider added, “I have never had an African-american come up to me and have any problem with it whatsoever.”
