Masks should be made in Alberta

- Dave Rudichuk, Edmonton

I am now convinced that Jason Kenney and the UCP have no clue what to do when schools reopen in September. Kenney seems to think that Albertans are stupid. He has the gall to award a 1.7-million mask order to a Chinese company, stating that the requirements could not be handled by any Alberta companies.

Just last month the UCP arranged for millions of blue masks to be given out to anyone in the province. Those masks were good enough then, so why aren’t they good enough now? The UCP seemed to be able to get those masks delivered on time. I would like to know what is so critical about the new design that precluded any Alberta companies from participating in the bid process.

And, it would appear the UCP is also deaf when it comes to the four Canadians being held by the Chinese government. What in the world was Kenney thinking by awarding a massive contract to a Chinese company while they are detaining our citizens in deplorable conditions?
