Be courteous while using trails

- Carol Alexander, Edmonton

I completely agree that silent cyclists are dangerous. I cycle the river valley trails almost every day. The trails are very busy these days as we all work at keeping our sanity during this pandemic

I use my bell every time I pass someone for my safety as well as theirs. My bell is often not heard because a lot of solo walkers/runners have headphones on. I also find people do not move to the right when they hear the ring. I slow down as I never know which way people will go once they hear my bell.

I have almost been run over by other cyclists who do not use their bells while passing. I also find the e-scooters that are all over the place a new danger. I had one young lady try to pass me unsafely on her scooter and she narrowly avoided a head-on collision with another scooter. Cyclists, use your bell. We are often going way faster than everyone else on the trail. Common courtesy will go a long way in preventing accidents.
