Edmonton man, 26, arrested in Toronto drug bust

- DYLAN SHORT

An Edmonton man was arrested in Ontario last month as Toronto police seized millions of dollars worth of drugs.

Toronto Police Services (TPS) conducted two drug searches in early November that netted more than 142 kilograms of crystal meth, cocaine, fentanyl and heroin, said a TPS news release Thursday. The drugs are believed to have a street value of $17.7 million.

Police also seized two guns and over $500,000 in Canadian money.

The first bust took place at three addresses in Vaughan, Ont. that saw an Ontario man arrested and 10 kg of cocaine, 767 grams of fentanyl and 67 kg of crystal methamphetamine seized.

The second investigation ended in the search of a suspected drug lab where it was believed fentanyl was being processed and packed. It is also suspected drugs were being distributed from the home.

A suspect was arrested before the home was searched.

Officers raided the house Nov. 19 and found $529,705 in Canadian currency, nine kg of cocaine, 33 kg of fentanyl (total from arrest and search warrant), 21 kg of crystal methamphetamine and one kg of heroin.

Also found inside the home were two firearms and silencers, ammo, a press believed to be used for producing fentanyl into brick form, a money counter, packaging and mixing equipment.

“This substantial seizure and the arrests made is testament to the hard work and dedication of all our officers involved in these investigations,” said TPS Insp. Tyrone Hilton

Bayaan Abdalla Jadid, 26, of Edmonton, has been charged with possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, careless storage of ammo, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and two counts of careless storage of a firearm.

Other charges Jadid is facing include two counts of careless storage of a prohibited device, three counts of possession of a prohibited device and two counts of possession of a firearm with ammo readily assessable.
