Autopsy confirms city's 36th homicide of 2020
Police ask for information on suspicious activity at southeast townhouse complex
An autopsy has confirmed the death of a 20-year-old man who was found dead in a southeast townhouse on Wednesday is Edmonton's 36th homicide of 2020.
City police were called to investigate reports of a body found in a townhouse near 34 Avenue and 58 Street around 3 a.m. Wednesday. Officers determined the death was suspicious.
An autopsy completed on Thursday confirmed 20-year-old Rauf Abdu Muzero's death was a homicide, an Edmonton Police Service news release said Friday.
The cause of death is not being released at this time for investigative purposes.
Investigators believe his death is related to “events” on Dec. 6 that occurred in the Hillview One townhome complex, located in the area of 34 Avenue and 58 Street.
Police are asking anyone with information about those events to contact Edmonton police.
EPS spokeswoman Cheryl Voordenhout said police responded to a weapons complaint in the area on Dec. 6.
Muzero's death is the 36th homicide in Edmonton this year.
Postmedia's records include one more death as police do not include officer-involved deaths in their count.
Marty Powder was shot to death by Edmonton police earlier this year. ASIRT is investigating.
This year's count has far surpassed 2019, which ended with 27 confirmed homicides.
