Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes provided a promising update on his surgically repaired toe.

Mahomes reiterated Thursday he feels healthy following an off-season operation. In fact, he was comfortable enough to grab his clubs in preparation for the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship Tournament in South Lake Tahoe, Nev.

“The toe's feeling great,” Mahomes told the NFL Network. “I'm out here playing golf, being able to walk around the course. I've been running, cutting, jumping, throwing, doing it all. So I'm just excited to get back to training camp and have another chance to make a run at it and win the Super Bowl this year.”

Mahomes, 25, had the procedure days after guiding the Chiefs to a second consecutive Super Bowl appearance, in which they dropped a 31-9 decision to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Feb. 7.

The Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday signed restricted free agent defenceman Travis Dermott to a two-year, Us$3-million contract extension through the 2022-23 season.

Dermott, 24, contributed six points in 51 regular-season games and appeared in three playoff games for the Maple Leafs in 2020-21.

The Ontario native has 47 points (11 goals, 36 assists), 86 penalty minutes and a plus24 rating in 208 games since making his NHL debut with Toronto in 2017-18.

A COVID-19 outbreak in Tyson Fury's camp threatens to postpone his July 24 heavyweight championship bout with Deontay Wilder, ESPN reported Thursday.

No official updates have been announced for the payper-view fight.

Sources told ESPN that, if necessary, the highly anticipated third match between Fury, 32, and Wilder, 35, would likely be pushed back until September.

The first Fury-wilder meeting in December 2018 ended in a disputed draw. Fury won the rematch in February 2020 when Wilder's corner threw in the towel in the seventh round. Fury, a six-foot-nine Englishman dubbed the Gypsy King, is 30-0-1 with 21 knockouts. Wilder, a six-footseven American known as the Bronze Bomber, is 42-1-1 with 41 knockouts.
