CSKA Moscow, a team in the Russian-based Kontinental Hockey League, named former NHL star Sergei Fedorov as its head coach on Wednesday.

Fedorov, 51, played for nearly two decades in the NHL, where he won three Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings. He won the Hart Memorial Trophy in the 1993-94 as most valuable player in the league.

He's the second all-time Russian NHL top scorer, behind Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin, and represented Russia and the Soviet Union at world championships and the Olympics.

Fedorov began his career at CSKA, the storied Red Army team that produced some of Russia's best hockey players.

Fedorov left the NHL after the 2008-09 season, playing three most seasons in the KHL before retiring. He later served as CSKA'S general manager.

For the second straight Olympic cycle, the team that represents Canada in mixed doubles curling at the Winter Games will be determined in Portage la Prairie, Man.

The mixed doubles Olympic trials are set for Dec. 28 to Jan. 2, determining which duo goes to Beijing in 2022.

“Portage la Prairie has proven repeatedly that it can put on top calibre curling championships,” Curling Canada board chair Amy Nixon said. “And I'm positive the city will show its support for these Olympic hopefuls.”

Winnipeg's Kaitlyn Lawes and Winnipegger turned Albertan John Morris won the inaugural trials four years ago and went on to win gold in South Korea, where the sport made its Olympic debut.

A man has been arrested after racist messages aimed at England players were posted on social media following the European Championship final, Greater Manchester Police said on Wednesday.

A 37-year-old man from Ashton upon Mersey in Trafford, Greater Manchester, turned himself in to police on Wednesday morning.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing an offence under Section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act and remains in custody for questioning, GMP said. The social media post was sent on Sunday evening, after England's defeat by Italy in the Euro final, and was flagged to GMP.

Detective Inspector Matt Gregory of GMP'S Trafford division said: “The actions of a small number of people overshadowed what was a hugely unifying event for our country on Sunday evening.

“We are firm in our commitment, any racist abuse whether online or off is not acceptable.”

England players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were targeted with racist abuse online after missing penalties in Sunday's shootout defeat at Wembley.
