Tech firm chooses Calgary for first office outside Europe

A global software company stationed in the U.K. has chosen Calgary to house its first North American headquarters.

Test Driven Solutions (TDS) was incorporated in April last year and has since expanded its presence in European and U.K. markets, according to a news release.

With offices in Newcastle in England and Wroclaw in Poland, Calgary represents the company's first push into North American markets.

According to TDS founder Sam Clark, Calgary provided the right environment to fuel the company's growth.

“I have spent some of my career in Alberta, and love Calgary's entrepreneurial spirit. The city was the right fit from a business perspective, with access to resources and a solid opportunity for growth,” Clark said in a release.

“We look forward to growing our team in Calgary and supporting the needs of our growing Canadian client roster.”

The company provides software consultants for short-term or long-term projects, including fullstack software developers, technical architects, Devops engineers and quality assurance engineers. TDS currently works with organizations in financial services, renewables, and health care.

The company's Calgary office will be located in Bankers Hall, the same building where RBC'S recently announced innovation tech hub will be.

This announcement comes during a time when Calgary's tech sector is growing.

A recent report from CBRE noted Calgary saw its technology workforce increase by 18 per cent in the past five years to more than 46,000 employees, with an average annual salary of almost $96,000.

Calgary Economic Development (CED), RBC, and Calgary's post-secondary institutions are looking to help grow the city's future generation of tech workers by pursuing work-integrated opportunities to better connect students in tech with jobs after graduation.

Patrick Mattern, vicepresident of business development at CED, said TDS'S work with organizations across several sectors, including health care and renewable energy, “align directly with the ambitions we have for Calgary's economy going forward.”
