BEAR GREASE
What a strange, tumultuous and wonderful Fringe it was — reduced capacity, sorta scary ... but still so fun! One of the most talked-about shows was Bear Grease over at the Pêhonân Showcase — the first show to sell out in 2021 — starring Trickster's Crystle Lightning and MC Redcloud, one-time Guinness World Record holder for longest freestyle rap, in this Indigenous spin on the 1978 musical. This is a “mark your calendars” call as the three encore performances run Tuesday and Wednesday — it's selling out fast. The show runs 60 minutes.

HENDE 27 ART SHOW
Following the removal of a golf-ballsized tumour from his cerebellum in 2019, Edmonton artist Mark Henderson dove into making more art inspired by architecture, now dealing with compromised vision, ataxia in his left arm and muscle spasticity. His resulting art now uses large blocks of acrylic colour on Mylar, cut into squares and collaged onto wood panels. The 27 in his signature refers to the 27 people in Canada a day average diagnosed with a brain tumour. The artist notes, “I am one of those people.”

STILLWATER (2021)
Stillwater follows oil worker Bill Baker (Matt Damon) from Stillwater, Okla., who travels to Marseille, France, to visit his daughter, Allison, five years into serving a nine-year prison sentence. While attending university in Marseille, Allison was convicted of killing her roommate and unfaithful lover, Lina. Baker's mission? To prove his daughter's innocence. Directed by Tom Mccarthy, 140 mins.
