RCMP are still searching for a man known to frequent Edmonton and wanted in connection with violent offences.

Over the weekend, RCMP issued news releases asking the public for assistance in locating Fort Saskatchewan resident Jason Trevor Hipson, 45.

Mounties said the charges were brought before a provincial court justice on Friday and include aggravated assault, using a weapon during the commission of a sexual assault, forcible confinement, overcoming resistance to commit an indictable offence (choke, strangle or suffocate), overcoming resistance to commit an indictable offence (administer overpowering drug) and theft of a motor vehicle.

The victim, a woman in her early 50s, was admitted to hospital with severe injuries throughout her entire body after Hipson allegedly held her captive, RCMP said.

On Friday, Mounties said Hipson is believed to be in the area of Strathcona County after allegedly taking the victim's vehicle from Fort Saskatchewan, northeast of Edmonton, and leaving it in the nearby hamlet of Sherwood Park where it was recovered by RCMP. Police have been searching for the suspect with help from both the RCMP'S air service and police dog services.

RCMP said Sunday Hipson may be hitchhiking or seeking alternate modes of travel, adding the suspect also has been convicted of robbery, use of imitation firearms, breaking and entering, sexual interference and sexual assault in Yarmouth, N.S., between 2005 and 2007.

“Members of the public are advised that the intent of sharing this information is so that the public will take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action,” RCMP said. “Anyone believing that a crime has been or is about to be committed is encouraged to call police.”

Mounties describe Hipson as a 200-pound white man standing five-foot-six with brown eyes and receding brown hair.

RCMP ask anyone with information about Hipson's whereabouts to call the Fort Saskatchewan detachment at 780-997-7900. Tipsters seeking anonymity can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip online at www.p3tips.com.
