Warrant issued in sex-trafficking case
Suspect faces 11 criminal charges for alleged crimes involving 12-year-old girl
A Canada-wide warrant for a suspect allegedly involved in sex trafficking a 12-year-old girl has been obtained by the ALERT human trafficking and counter exploitation unit.
The warrant is for Kemron Alexander, who faces 11 criminal charges in relation to human trafficking and sexual assault, ALERT said in a Thursday news release.
The 28-year- old suspect is known to travel between Edmonton, Calgary, Fort Mcmurray, Vancouver, Kelowna, B.C., and the B.C. Lower Mainland area. ALERT added he also has connections to Ontario.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect's whereabouts is asked to contact local police or Crime Stoppers.
ALERT says he should not be approached because he is known to carry weapons.
“Our primary concern is supporting this child victim and exhausting every measure to ensure she is protected from her alleged perpetrator. We need to get him in custody and we need the public's help in locating him,” said ALERT Staff Sgt. Frank Page.
ALERT said the child has been apprehended and has received support and specialized resources. The girl has since been returned to the care of her mother.
Alexander is facing charges including trafficking a person under the age of 18, procuring a person under the age of 18, sexual exploitation, arrangement for sexual offence against a child, material benefit from sex trafficking, advertisement of sexual services and sexual assault.
Police said the investigation began last May and ALERT has relied on the assistance of RCMP in Fort Mcmurray, Kelowna, B.C., and the Vancouver police.
