Upgrade. It’s one of those words in the English language that induce an endorphin rush when you’re offered one. (Anyone who read about my adventures on Emirates knows that I experienced a pronounced “neurohormonal surge” when I was upgraded from business to first class on this flying palace.) When we were planning our September issue—the real New Year for most of us—we wanted to take that desire for a fresh start and bump it up a notch by exploring how you can give your life a boost. But first, let me tell you about some of our own upgrades.

VIDEO STAR We worked with Hudson’s Bay to create a 360-degree fashion experience for you with our first-ever shoppable videos. (See page 80.) Click it. Buy it. Wear it. Share it! (It’s our new mantra.) Kudos to photographer/videographer Arkan Zakharov, stylist Juliana Schiavinatto and our art director, Brittany Eccles, for bringing inspired fashion+shopping to life. #LOVE

NEW PERSPECTIVES Here’s another first—and we’re pretty jazzed about it. Now you can experience our pages in 3-D, with the free viewa app. Our sisters at ELLE Australia use it, and it’s pretty cool. You scan a page with your phone and—voila!—a 3-D interface appears that lets you watch videos and shop the looks. Curious? Turn to page 80 for details.

EXTRA EXTRA For the ultimate upgrade story, read #lifereboot, a new column by Stephanie Gilman. (See page 200.) At 30, she’s starting her life over after recovering from breast cancer. “I’m sure you’ve all reached a point—or you will—where you want to lead a more meaningful life,” she says. “So join me in this year-long challenge as I test out experiences (everything from a mindfulness retreat to an improv-comedy course) with the goal of rebooting my life.” Game on!

IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU Okay, enough about us. Turn to page 123 for our 10-page guide to upgrading your life. There’s everything from the ultimate fall handbag to a lifestyle app that will become your digital BFF. Find out what special extras designers like Prabal Gurung covet and why changing the way you dress for bed will change your life. Seriously. Writer Heather O’Neill reveals an unexpected way to make new friends, and fashion journalist Nathalie Atkinson shares the unexpected upgrade she experienced when she decided to focus more on what’s between her ears than what’s on her feet.
