Oneon-one with a M.A.C mover and shaker.
Character building, one lipstick at a time.
This is a brand that celebrates who you are as well as your creativity. I always say you can achieve anything at M.A.C as long as you have that vision (and understand that you’re going to have to work hard!). When founders Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo created the brand, they wanted people who didn’t belong anywhere else to have a place with us. Our artists (over 18,000 of them in 95 countries) bring what I call the ‘M.A.C gospel’: all ages, all races, all sexes—allinclusive. People want to work for us because they feel like they make a difference in the world. That’s a very powerful thing, and that’s what makes us sustainable [as a company].
“Success comes down to your relationships and your determination. My advice? Take steps to do what’s right, and don’t be afraid to be bold about what you want. Know that you’re going to make mistakes along the way and that it’s not about the mistakes made; it’s about how you recover from them. It’s not about how you handle yourself during the good times; it’s about how you handle yourself in the bad times. Those character-defining moments are what build strength: I know that I will fall down and I will get up.
“My greatest indulgence—other than my red wine at night—is exercise. It’s a little time to myself and an investment in me too. They [wine and exercise] cover both spectrums: I do something really good for me, and then I reward myself for doing something good!” ■
