1. The 14-year wait for the sequel was all her fault. “I always knew a sequel would involve Toula as a parent, and in reality it was very difficult for me to become pregnant. Can you imagine a press tour with me having gone through all these fertility treatments on a quest to be a mom and people are like, ‘Well, where’s your baby?’” [Vardalos now has a daughter.] 2. The film has a very simple message. “No matter what your age is, no one is going to give you what you need unless you ask for it.” 3. It’s a family affair. “My parents, brother and sisters were background actors in the wedding-reception scene. We played music and joined hands, and I had my cast family dancing with my real family.” 4. She couldn’t neglect her BFFs. “I wrote parts for my two closest girlfriends—Tannis Burnett and Kathryn Greenwood—and they play my nemeses in the movie. We walked around set like, ‘We’re in a movie together! You—get us a smoothie.’ But we’re so Canadian that then we’re like, ‘Wait, let me help you make that.’” h
