JEAN AU­GUS­TINE

The first African Cana­dian woman to be elected to Par­lia­ment and to serve in the fed­eral cabi­net, she ad­vo­cated for the leg­is­la­tion that now rec­og­nizes Black His­tory Month in Canada. The Jean Au­gus­tine Schol­ar­ship, a fund that helps sin­gle moth­ers at­tend Ge­orge Brown Col­lege and Cen­ten­nial Col­lege in Toronto, was es­tab­lished in her hon­our.

Former On­tario Fi­nance Min­is­ter and the first woman to de­liver a bud­get in the prov­ince, she is the CEO and pres­i­dent of the Toronto Fi­nan­cial Ser­vices Al­liance and has a goal to grow the fi­nan­cial in­dus­try in Toronto.

NIKKI WHAITES

Deputy di­rec­tor of International Pro­gram­ming for War Child Canada, she helped es­tab­lish the or­ga­ni­za­tion’s work in war-torn South Su­dan and the Mid­dle East, where they work di­rectly with women and chil­dren. Nikki over­sees mul­ti­ple pro­grams, in­clud­ing le­gal aid for vic­tims of sex­ual vi­o­lence in Afghanistan.
