HOW STUFF GETS MADE

CINDY HOLLAND I S VICE- PRESIDENT OF ORIGINAL CONTENT AT NETFLIX. HERE’S WHAT SHE’S GREEN- LIGHTING THIS SEASON.

-

STUFF YOU CAN WATCH WITH YOUR MOM “Three years ago, we noticed that there wasn’t a whole lot of programming for families to watch together; nor was there a lot of high-quality programming for young adults. That’s why we brought Fuller House and Gilmore Girls back, but it’s also why we created Stranger Things and 13 Reasons Why. We spotted a white space in the market and asked the creative community to bring us their best ideas.”

PROGRAMMING THAT’S NOT IN ENGLISH “We have an entire team dedicated to finding the best storytellers around the world and creating original content in their countries and languages. We currently have a series called Cable Girls that was done in Spain but is resonating not only there but throughout Latin America and around the world. We have more viewers of that series outside Spain than in.”

SCI-FI COWBOYS “Bigger-budget sci-fi is an area we’re looking at. We have a Western coming up in the fall called Godless, starring Michelle Dockery and Jack O’Connell. We haven’t seen a good Western on television or in theatres for quite some time, honestly.”
