LAST KISS

-

INSPIRED BY THE PASSIONATE love letters between iconic author Virginia Woolf and her long-time lover, Vita Sackville-West, Givenchy’s spring/summer 2020 couture collection was as romantic as its muse. Not long after the poignant show, Clare Waight Keller, the first female artistic director in the famed house’s history, stepped down after just three years, although they certainly were storied enough that they—like Woolf’s adoring letters—will be remembered for years to come. Waight Keller may always be best known for creating the sweeping yet understated gown for Meghan Markle’s royal wedding in 2018, but the thoughtful creator with unparalleled tailoring skills should also be credited for bringing Givenchy haute couture back to the runway during her brief tenure. No one knows what the future holds, but one thing is certain: We’ll be waiting with anticipation for Waight Keller’s next bout of inspired work, whenever that may be.
