Behind the Issue
1. Writer EMILY TAMFO is getting real about a key lesson she has learned during the pandemic: It’s okay if your big-dream plans take time to accomplish (“Lockdown Letdown,” p. 62). The first thing the Torontobased writer is hoping to do in a post-COVID-19 world? “I want to go to a concert,” she says. “All I want to do is see anyone (YES, ANYONE) perform live in concert in a big venue with lots of people.”
2. Renowned makeup artist SABRINA RINALDI worked on not one but two shoots for our latest issue (“Eye Candy,” p. 48, and “A Sign of the Times,” p. 76). In her work, the first-generation Canadian, who splits her time between Toronto and Montreal, loves to experiment with both glam and natural looks. “If you’re familiar with my work, you can see that I kind of do everything,” she says. “That’s because I get bored easily and am inspired by constantly doing different styles of makeup.”
3. Photography power couple NIKOLE HERRIOTT and MICHAEL GRAYDON have enjoyed spending more quality time together than usual in their Toronto studio, getting creative and developing their approach to work. The duo, who work under the name Graydon Herriott, are also thinking about future career plans. “We’d love to do a big, beautiful campaign shoot in Asia,” Victoria native Herriott tells us. “Ideally, it would be a project that includes lots of travel.” To check out their still-life photography, head to page 29.
4. In “Down and Dirty” (p. 54), Torontonian SARAH DANIEL debunks some myths about body cleansing. (Hint: Less is more.) And when it comes to her own shower habits, the writer keeps it simple. “All my can’tlive-without products are on dry land,” she says. “I use bar soap or, when I’m a bit more flush with cash, I buy Aesop’s Body Cleansing Slab. I’m always looking for products with no or minimal plastic packaging.”
