BLACK ANGELS

“Death Song” PARTISAN RECORDS

April 21 – Black Angels’ 1st full length in 4 years!! Written and recorded in part during the recent election cycle, the music on “Death Song” serves as part protest and part emotional catharsis in a climate dominated by division, anxiety and unease. “Death Song” features production from Phil Ek (Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes, The Shins). The 11-track collection offers a sharply honed elaboration on their signature sound – menacing fuzz guitar and cutting wordplay, steeped in a murky hallucinatory dream.

FULL OF HELL

“Trumpeting Ecstasy” PROFOUND LORE

May 5 – Maryland/Pennsylvania experimental death-noise band Full Of Hell’s latest journey leads them to “Trumpeting Ecstasy”, their most punishing, virulent, and dynamic work to date. The embryonic beginnings of Full of Hell displayed their palette at its most primitive: d-beat and blast-ridden hardcore punk, with spats of noise and caustic rhythm. The band’s evolution combines elements of their previous sound with grindcore, death/ black metal, sonically laden power electronics and industrial pounding. Going into the studio with Kurt Ballou at the production helm, the result, “Trumpeting Ecstacy” is their best and strongest yet. Sky tearing and sonically cataclysmic, this aural deluge features guest appearances by Aaron Turner (Sumac/Old Man Gloom/Mamiffer/Isis), Nate Newton (Converge/Old Man Gloom), Andrew Nolan (Column Of Heaven/The Endless Blockade), and Canadian singer/songwriter Nicole Dollanganger. Active since 2009, their fanbase continues to grow with each devastating release. Past and recent highlights include a 2014 album with Merzbow (Profound Lore), a 2016 album with The Body (Neurot), and several EPs, one of them being their most-recent split 7-inch with Nails (debuting on #2 on the Billboard Top 100 Singles Chart).

GUIDED BY VOICES

“August By Cake” GUIDED BY VOICES, INC.

April 7 – “August By Cake” is Robert Pollard’s 100th studio release since 1986’s “Forever Since Breakfast”. To put that in perspective, Bob Dylan has released roughly thirty nine studio albums since 1959 (including the Traveling Wilburys). This highly anticipated record, includes the most musically adept and versatile line-up Pollard has ever assembled - returning GBV veterans Doug Gillard and Kevin March, virgins Bobby Bare Jr and Mark Shue - a line-up dedicated to wowing audiences since 2016. With thirty two songs, this album is also GBV’s first ever double album, with song contributions from all five band members, setting album #100 apart from the previous ninetynine. “August By Cake” is not just a double album, it is a great one.

HAWKWIND

“Into the Woods” CHERRY RED

May 5 – Cherry Red Records are pleased to announce the release of the new album by the legendary Hawkwind, “Into The Woods”. It follows the critical acclaim and commercial success of last year’s Top 40 album ‘The Machine Stops’, which was inspired by E.M. Forster’s Sci-fi classic, a dystopian vision of the future brought to life with characteristic Hawkwind style.

LIGHTHOUSE

“Lighthouse - Suite Feeling - Peacing It All Together” BGO

April 14 – Canadian jazz rockers’ three albums for RCA, dating from 1969 and 1970. At one time, Lighthouse boasted 13 members, playing very much their own brand of music and subsequently paving the way for acts such as Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chicago. They disbanded in 1976 but reformed in 1982 as a 10 piece, and continue to gig and occasionally record. 2CD set, Digitally remastered with Extensive new notes.

RAVEONETTES

“2016 Atomized” BEAT DIES

April 21 – The Raveonettes are an L.A. based indie rock duo from Denmark: Sune Rose Wagner (guitar and vocals) and Sharin Foo (bass, guitar and vocals). Widely credited as one of the key influences in the garage rock revival of the noughties, and revered by the likes of Tom Petty, Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode), Julian Casablancas (The Strokes), Little Steven and Johnny Marr, to name but a few; the band continues to evolve sonically and visually, as their live shows continue to captivate audiences around the world. Close vocal harmonies combined with hard-edged electric guitar sounds and liberal dose of noise, their songs juxtapose the simplicity of ‘50s & ‘60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and dark lyrical content.

V/ A

“Jon Savage’s 1967: The Year Pop Divided” ACE

April 7 – Jon Savage follows up last year’s “1966” 2CD set with a similarly packaged anthology of hits and rarities from 1967. There is no accompanying book this time – so you’ll have to buy this to read all about it in his sleeve notes. Now typified as the year of flower power, 1967 was the year the 60s divided. During those 12 months, the revenues from LP sales in Britain finally overtook those from 45s, as the nation began consuming music with newfound fervor. Reflecting this turbulent and driven time, the tracklisting for this version of 1967 ranges between Tamla, Stax soul and the beginnings of funk, as well as mainstream white pop, white soul, West Coast and psychedelia.

WEAR YOUR WOUNDS

Out now! “WYW” DEATHWISH

April 7 – Wear Your Wounds is the product of years’ worth of solo recordings by Converge founder Jacob Bannon. On this release, he is joined by guest musicians Kurt Ballou (Converge), Mike Mckenzie (The Red Chord, Stomach Earth, Unraveller), Chris Maggio (Sleigh Bells, Trap Them, Coliseum) and Sean Martin (Hatebreed, Cage, Kid Cudi, Twitching Tongues). Together they have created a powerful album that is unlike anything they have ever individually worked on.

WIRE

“Silver/Lead” PINK FLAG

Silver/Lead is the 15th studio album from uniquely addictive 21st century psychedelic post-punk pioneers Wire. Colin Newman and Matt Simms’ guitar work is alternately jagged and luminous, while bassist Graham Lewis’s ear-catching lyrics are vivid yet oblique. Meanwhile, drummer Robert Grey provides a virtual masterclass in percussive minimalism. Newman’s production creates a sonic space in which even the smallest gesture is accorded some recognition. Highlights include the optimistic dazzle of ‘Diamonds In Cups’, with its almost T. Rex-style buzz and chug, and the moody swing of ‘This Time’. There’s also the menacing widescreen grandeur of ‘ Playing Harp for the Fishes’ and break-neck-paced guitar pop of ‘Short Elevated Period’. Wire’s ground-breaking influence is cited by bands as diverse as Blur, Sonic Youth, R.E.M. and Savages. Never interested in exploiting past glories, still, Wire’s last three albums garnered nothing but rave reviews. Released on the band’s 40th anniversary, “Silver/Lead” is an album which has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future.
