TGIF THE 13TH

Now that Halloween has stuffed its proverbial candy bag full of sweet, sweet box office returns, Hollywood is tripping over itself to remake more horror flicks of yesteryear. There’s already a new Chucky movie in the works, but up next it will be Jason’s turn at the multiplex. According to Deadline, a new entry in the classic Friday the 13th slasher series is in the early stages of development. More notably, it’s being pursued by LeBron James, through his Springhill Entertainment company.

HITCHHIKING WITH HEMSWORTH

When he’s not offering comedic relief in the Avengers movies as Thor (or, presumably, appearing in other projects as well?) Australian actor Chris Hemsworth is apparently down for adventure. He recently picked up a hitchhiker in Brisbane, who turned out to be musician Scott Hildebrand, an American who was visiting from Mexico. Flexing his celeb connections, Hemsworth wound up taking Hildebrand on a helicopter ride.

GUILLERMOCCHIO

Guillermo del Toro recently won an Oscar for directing The Shape of Water, a movie that features a woman who has sex with a fish-man hybrid. Whether or not he’ll bring that weird eroticism to his next project is yet to be seen, but colour us curious: he’s making a stop-motion Pinocchio film for Netflix. We’d love to see what that nose can do.

ENCHANTED BY DISENCHANTMENT

Matt Groening’s third animated series Disenchantment was a hit-or-miss affair for fans, but they’ll have plenty of time to change their opinions. Netflix has expanded its order from 20 episodes to 40. That means we’ll get an additional ten episodes in 2019, 2020 and 2021, respectively. And Matt Groening will get to focus his attention on a show where he doesn’t have to think about the Apu situation.

THE WEEKND AND THE SANDMN

The Safdie Brothers are no strangers to stunt casting — they managed to make Robert Pattinson look cool as hell while acting alongside horrorcore rapper Necro in their fantastic flick Good Time. Their followup, Uncut Gems, will be no different. As previously reported, the film stars Adam Sandler, already a collaboration worth the price of admission. To sweeten the deal, Page Six reports that it also features a performance from the Weeknd, who appeared at the club 1OAK alongside rapper Trinidad James to shoot scenes. Here’s hoping they performed Sandler’s classic “Ode to My Car.”
