If You Go

-

A word about costs: London is expensive. Entrance to museums range from free or free on specific days to £16 for the Churchill War Rooms and the London Transport Museum. The average cost is about £9. Always travel by subway (the Tube) and use the Oyster card, which is a pay-as-you-go smartcard that saves you 50 per cent on all public London transport. Avoid London cabs. They are horribly expensive and very slow. Hotels are plentiful, small and costly. After a few nights at one by High Park with a 5½- foot-wide room, we treated ourselves to One Aldwych in Covent Garden. This is one of London’s top hotels and it was a delightful, quiet oasis of comfort and luxury in the heart of everything. Our room was six times the size of our previous hotel.
