Is there one route you set that stands out as the “best” for you? I’ve set some f ive-star lines, but I’ve put up my fair share of choss-piles too. I think I’m most proud of my work when I achieve good separation in a competition route, so I’m particularly proud of this one route I set for a youth competition at Inner Peaks in Charlotte, N.C. I had a pretty tough time putting it together because I’d never set a lead route on a rope before. Balancing volumes on wrenches and trying not to knock over the ladder I used to get up to the roof was certainly an exciting experience, so I was extra happy when the route turned out really well and resulted in good separation between the top competitors.
