On June 3, Alex Hon­nold made the first free-solo of El Cap­i­tan via the 1,000- me­tre Freerider 5.13a. His as­cent took three hours and 56 min­utes and is con­sid­ered by many to be the great­est solo ever. Af­ter his climb, he said, “So stoked to re­al­ize a life dream to­day.” The climb was filmed by Jimmy Chin for an up­com­ing doc­u­men­tary. At the time of print, Marc-An­dre Le­clerc had climbed a num­ber of new routes in the Ghost River Val­ley ground-up free-solo. He made the likely first free-so­los of South­ern Ex­po­sure 5.11a 300 m and Man­tissa 5.10d 300 m in the Ghost, Cheesmond Ex­press 5.10c 600 m on Ha Ling and Fly­ing But­tress to East Ridge of Mount Deltaform IV 1,500 m. He then Soloed Screams from the Bal­cony 5.11 150 m at Sad­dle­back and Pinko 5.10 500 m on Rimwall.
