President’s Message Chairman’s Message
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’d like to congratulate our fellow member Mathew Nuqingaq on his appointment to the Order of Canada, a significant and fitting honour. I would also like to welcome our newest members Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory (Iqaluit) and Beatrice Deer (Montreal), both amazing artists appointed to our board in January. Each brings a wealth of experience in arts administration and enthusiasm to our organization. Williamson Bathory is an artist, performer of uajeerneq, storyteller and actor, as well as a founder and former Executive Director of Qaggiavuut!, while Deer is a Program Officer with Avataq Cultural Institute and one of Nunavik’s most notable singersongwriters. We look forward to their important contributions as we prepare for our 30th anniversary this June.
As we near this important milestone, we have been taking stock of the IAF’s legacy. We are excited to announce our plans in the coming months and look forward to celebrating with you and appreciate all of your support.
Finally, I would like to note the passing of Tim Pitsiulak. Tim was a fixture at Kinngait Studios and his absence is deeply felt. He is remembered for his generous spirit and dedication to our community, both of which live on through his artwork.
