Matrix 0-3 at peewee Atlantics
Mid-Isle loses to N.L. squad
The Mid-Isle Matrix fell to 0-3 (won-lost) at the 2016 Bell Aliant Atlantic peewee AAA hockey championship on Friday. The St. John’s Hitmen from Newfoundland and Labrador defeated the P.E.I. Peewee AAA Hockey League champions 8-2 in a morning game, and the host Charlottetown Abbies improved to 1-2 with a 4-3 overtime win over the Matrix in an evening contest. Harrison James and Gage Taylor scored for the Matrix against St. John’s. Lance Murphy and Calvin MacWilliams set up the goals, and Michael McQuaid was named Mid-Isle’s player of the game.
Player of the game
The Matrix’s player of the game against the Abbies was Josh Smith. Jackson Howatt took the Charlottetown award. No scoring statistics were available. Earlier Friday, Alex Graham picked up the Abbies’ playerof-the-game award in an 8-0 loss to Nova Scotia’s East Hants Penguins.
Saturday, the Matrix will conclude round-robin play against the Nova Scotia representative from East Hants at 3 p.m. The Abbies face St. John’s at noon.
