A P.E.I. man who sexually abused his daughter gets six more months of day parole

A P.E.I. man who was sentenced to 10 years in prison after sexually abusing his daughter will continue his day parole. The man, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, was sentenced after pleading guilty to charges that included incest, sexual interference and producing child pornography.

Last year the Parole Board of Canada granted him day parole under several conditions.

In a recent report, the board decided to continue day parole for another six months.

Over a five-year period the man sexually abused his daughter, including one incident during which he invited a second man to have group sex with the girl. That second man was sentenced to two years in prison for sexual interference.

The board’s latest report said the father has complied with special conditions imposed on him while he has been on day parole. Since his release, the man has been volunteering for what amounts to full-time hours of work, which was to be turned into a paid position last month. In assessing the man’s likelihood of re-offending, the board said his limited criminal history and the fact he committed the crimes later in life were indications he could avoid crime.

The board said it believed the man’s convictions, his loss of respect within the community and family and the lengthy sentence have acted as deterrents against re-offending. Several conditions are in place while the man is on day parole, including that he have no contact with his victim. He is also to have no contact with girls under the age of 18 unless a responsible adult, who is aware of his criminal history and has written approval, accompanies him.
