Plenty of entertainment lined up for popular annual event
As always, traditional Acadian music and a variety show will be an integral part of this year’s Evangeline Area Exhibition and Acadian Festival. The festival, running from Sept. 1 to 4 in Abram-Village will include performers from other provinces as well as Islanders. One of the most popular events of the weekend will feature Claude Chaussé and his intelligent horse Mustang, from Quebec. The duo will perform acrobatic tricks along with a Western-style comedy routine throughout the weekend with shows on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, Sept. 4, at noon and 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 1, will feature the Acazing Talent Competition at 7:30 p.m. presenting a maximum of 18 contestants in three age categories. The winner of each category will receive cash prizes and at the break, last year’s winners, Allen Gallant, 112 Accords, and Gilbert Arsenault will present a mini-concert.
Friday’s activities include the provincial finals of the Youth Talent Competition at 2:30 p.m.
At 3:30 p.m. singer-musician Art Richard will present his popular children’s show, and starting at 9 p.m. festival-goers can attend a musicians’ jam at the Acadian Musical Village.
Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, husband and wife duo Nick and Samantha Arsenault, will open a family show, followed by the Ross Family. Réveil, a group from New Brunswick, will take the stage at 4 p.m. providing a sample of their performance later that evening at the Evangeline and Gabriel Dance. Then at 8 p.m. 112 Accords will perform, accompanied by guests from the Magdalen Islands in the Angèle Arsenault Hall at the Acadian Musical Village. On the final day, Sunday, Sept. 4, a popular fiddle-anddance concert will kick off at 2:30 p.m. and finally at 7 p.m. “Place aux jeunes artistes” (Showcase for young artists) will close the show.
